Nigel and Kristen met in a very modern and millennial way; they found one another on an online dating app, Hinge. Nigel was infatuated with Kristen's eyes as well as her funny and light hearted prompts. Nigel reached out to Kristen and invited her on a first date and she said yes, however, she was out of state and he anxiously waited on her return. Upon arriving, the two finally met one another and it was surprisingly not awkward; the two felt very comfortable with each other and enjoyed their dates around Fort Worth. As the months and years progressed, the couple went on many adventures, tasted many foods, and introduced one another to friends and family.
Historically, Nigel loved throwing big parties, and with his 30th birthday on the way, he had something special planned. Kristen was aware of his fancy birthday party on the way, but had no idea it was a disguise for the true intention. Nigel knew he wanted loved ones around for the proposal and figured a big birthday party would have all of our friends and family present. Nigel discovered long before the proposal that Kristen was the one, it was never a matter of if, but of when, and with his birthday a handful of months away, he decided to get planning. During their Christmas trip to Ohio, Nigel was there to relax and have a good time, but his first priority was getting her parents' blessings (in secret of course) and letting them know of the plans. After obtaining both blessings, he felt like a weight was lifted off his shoulders and party preparation began; he then went ring and venue shopping. Thanks to guidance on ring styles from Kristen's mother and the gracious offering of their home by Mimi and Tony (dear family friends), everything was ready for February. The weekend of the proposal, Nigel delegated jobs to others to help out with setting up everything, including picking up food, drinks, his parents, and most importantly, keeping Kristen away from the setup and distracted. Big thank you to Morgan and Jenna for taking her for a manicure prior to receiving the ring as well as keeping her entertained. Our party had a formal theme and everyone that attended was dressed fancy and mingling with one another, Nigel however was STRESSING OUT. Now, he knew deep down there was nothing to stress out about, it was just that it was a big moment for them. He was greeting guests and mingling, and as stress was building , he shared that he was proposing to a few of his friends that did not know and their faces were priceless and helped him to relax.
The moment finally came as we were about to cut the cake, after being sung Happy Birthday, Nigel grabbed the microphone and went on with thanking everyone for helping with his lavish birthday party, all to end the speech with asking Kristen to MARRY him. Kristen happily said yes, (while still trying to process what just happened) and then the couple shared a big hug and kiss and the crowd went wild. Our photographer captured such magic photos of the day as well as others surprised expressions. Nigel did not tell his parents and many of his friends of his elaborate plan, he just knew his parents wanted him to marry Kristen since the first time they met her, and he knew his local friends were going to come to their party no matter what, and to see their faces was well worth the surprise. The rest of the night, we partied, ate food, and enjoyed everyone's blessings.
We are so excited to enjoy our wedding with all of you in April.
